UFOs, Aliens, & Bigfoot: A Biblical Response (Part 1)

Writer: DawnDawn

A couple of years ago, if you were to ask me about UFOs and aliens I would probably smile because I had no real biblical answer or interest. And if you started a conversation about Bigfoot, well, I would flat-out laugh. My husband likes to tease me saying, "Dawn, Bigfoot is real!" and "Look at all the eyewitness testimonies!" We've had rousing discussions about what it is and watched (to my dismay), video after video of supposedly real encounters.

"Please, hun, these are scams, No reputable scientist has ever documented it. Please....it's all fake."

"Dawn, look at the VIDEO! Cmon, that has to be real!" (To my husband's credit, he is a good teaser).

Until one day, I sensed a prompting from the Lord and offered my husband this as my Bigfoot-scam-apologetic:

"I think if they are real, they're leftover Nephilium...from the time of the giants."

"Hmmmm...", said my husband. "Could be."

From that moment, a path of truth was forged.

I hope I am not easily duped with scams or supernatural things. I try to be very balanced and rational (as I learned years ago "first the natural then the supernatural"). I can get pretty excited about things like the Rapture, angels, and prophecy, but I don't want to be deceived. No one wants to be deceived. But the question is: How do we not? The answer: We arm ourselves with the truth. And the truth is the Word of God and the Holy Spirit of God. We also learn truth from other believers who are anointed with wisdom in specific areas. How the paranormal (and supernatural) is explained can mean the difference between spiritual life and death.

So with the recent uptick in discussions of UFOs, aliens and we'll add Bigfoot (sigh), what should a Christian's response be? It is written in Colossians 4:5-6 (New King James Version): "5Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one." Let's imagine you are sitting next to someone on an airplane and the conversation took a turn to the recent alien disclosures in the United States government. Would you know what to say from a Biblical perspective? Does it matter? I can tell you it does.

A year ago I was on a plane and the woman next to me said she was in town to attend a metaphysical conference. The fact that she would start a conversation was an answer to prayer for me because when I fly I pray the Lord will seat me next to a nice woman I can share the love of Jesus with. On the two-hour flight, this woman was either asleep or watching a movie and our conversation didn't begin until we were landing. She shared she was in town for a conference and said in a chipper voice:

"The master (leader of the New Age conference), teaches us all about quantum physics!"

I replied, "I love quantum physics!"

This precious lady turned sideways in her seat and would have grabbed and hugged me if her seatbelt hadn't been buckled.

"You do?"

"Yes, I'm a Christian, and quantum physics was created by God. This is how Jesus walked on water and through walls. Because He spoke and created matter through faith (Hebrews 11:3) and therefore through faith He was able to suspend matter and change its molecular properties."

Silence.

This dear woman got out her phone and in the short time we had left on the plane she wrote down everything I said. I shared the entire gospel (which she had never heard before) and gave her a card with a scripture and my number. She almost had tears and said, "I just feel so tingley! I know we were meant to sit together!" Indeed we were.

But what if I didn't have an answer for the New Age deception with which she was involved? And trust me, I didn't know how to answer a couple of things like how some people were healed in the meetings (although later I realized it was lying signs and wonders). I didn't spend time telling her the evils of New Age, but instead highlighted the glorious Gospel. We don't have to know everything about everything to be competent in some things. We just need to be as prepared as possible and ready to give an answer that leads people to the Truth.

In the 1990s, my best friend told her kids that one day the devil would use aliens to deceive the world. Her kids told her never to tell anyone because they would think she was crazy. She wasn't and is, in fact, the most accurate prophetic person I know. Back in the day, people who believed in UFOs and aliens were considered fringe and wore the iconic"tin foil hats". There were also the stereotypical people who claimed to have alien encounters, and described UFOs flying over "them there corn fields where Jethro was abducted". Now the topic isn't isolated to the fringe but has come out in the open - way out. To the highest levels of government.

In July of 1947, less than a year before the formal recognition of the State of Israel, there was the famous Roswell incident where a so-called "flying saucer" crashed in the New Mexico desert. The craft and alien bodies were allegedly confiscated and taken to a secret location (Becket, 2022). According to the UFO factsheet, from 1948 until 1969, the Air Force investigated 12, 618 sightings. The Projects changed names over the years and were eventually shelved entirely because it was decided these unidentified objects were not security threats. However, on the 17th of May, 2022, after years of laying dormant, congressional hearings were held with military officials that discussed the reports of UAPs (unexplained aerial phenomena) ("2022 United States Congress hearings on UFOs", 2024). Then on July 26, 2023, a House Oversight and Subcommittee meeting was held which, according to the NPR's headline, the "U.S. recovered non-human 'biologics' from UFO crash sites, former intel official says" (see full report and video here) (Romo & Chappell, 2023). *I want to note that not all UFOs or UAPs are "unidentified" - Some things we see in videos are from military test flights or have a natural explanation.

Of course, this information is nothing new to ufologists in the general public and Christendom; they have been wearing their tinfoil hats with pride. But now the topic has entered our realm. The realm of the everyday Christian. And this requires that we have a response. Christian ufologists like L.A. Marzulli, have been trumpeting that this day was coming; when the UFO and alien phenomena would not only be front and center but so commonplace it no longer grabs our attention. And herein lies the danger of deception: when the issue is no longer on the fringe and the general public isn't wary anymore, acceptance of the false narrative occurs.

We know from movie depictions that UFOs and aliens can be really bad - think Alien. And some can be cute and benevolent - E.T. But what is the truth? First, you'll notice the genre these topics fall into: Sci-Fi (which can be neutral sometimes), New Age, and occult. People who have claimed interactions with "alien entities" report being terrified, unable to move, and experiencing things against their will. Interestingly, Christians who have had an attempted visitation report that the "beings" left when they were rebuked in the name of Jesus. (*See this video at minute 24:53.)

However, not all unexplained interactions are reported as malevolent. There are reports of orbs (floating circles of light), beings appearing and saying comforting or helpful things, and people who channel "alien entities" that are "looking out for the good of mankind". A big clue that aliens are not benevolent beings from a kindly planet is that you need to communicate with them through someone who channels it (or a medium). This is a fancy way of describing a person possessed by an entity (demon)(Prophecy Watchers, 2024).

In 2 Corinthians 11:1-14, Paul warns us against false gospels and "different spirits" because there is the big risk of deception; "...for satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising then that his servants will masquerade as servants of righteousness." (2 Corinth. 11:14-15). When people see unexplained objects in the sky, glowing orbs, hovering lights, and unidentified objects, and they have no true biblical paradigm, they are susceptible to deception. Billy Crone, a widely respected pastor and speaker, who used to be heavily involved in the occult, has taught that the "benevolent alien theory" will be used as a reason why so many people disappear from earth one day in what we know as the Rapture. Occultists have documented that these "beings" told them not be afraid when millions of people vanish from the earth, they were just not ready for the "New Age" coming.

I think a rational person can surmize that the UFO or UAP, and alien phenomenon is enigmatic at best and sinister at worst. The simple case that people who encounter "aliens" personally are generally reported to not be Christians, serves as empirical evidence that the alien phenomena is not something sent by the Holy Spirit to help us. On the contrary, those who embrace the benevolent alien theory tend to be lured into New Age ideas and full-blown occultism.

Maybe some think there could be higher life forms on other planets. After all, couldn't God, who is so creative and infinite, have created other planets with happy and helpful beings? We could think along those lines. And there isn't anything wrong with a godly imagination and wonder. But there are spiritual ditches we can get into if we follow that road of thinking too far: it often requires us to think outside what the Bible plainly says. In 1 Peter 1:3, Peter writes that the Holy Spirit has given us everything for life and godliness. Thinking outside of Biblical parameters does not lead us closer to the Lord, but possibly down the road to the occult and deception. The Lord Jesus came to earth to show us the only way to the Father which is through Him only (John 14:6). With faith in Jesus's sinless life, His death on the cross, and His bodily resurrection, we have access to Father God and become born again beloved children. Any theories that suggest or even hint that extra-planetary beings can help us live better lives or are here to save us, are redundant and demonic.

A great video on this topic is from Prophecy Watchers ministries. In it, Billy Crone discusses aliens, UFOs, and the Rapture. Watch it here: UFOs and the Rapture | Billy Crone The next blog will cover the likely real identity of aliens, where they come from, and the heavenly flying objects described in the Bible.

"There is no one like the God of Jeshurun Who rides the heavens to help you, and in His excellency on the clouds." Deuteronomy 33:26
